There are various rates that hotels charge their visitors, based on a variety of activities. Casino rate is a heavily discounted rate given to players who wager on games, but not enough to issue a comped (or free) room.
Here are the rates I’m aware of, from worst to best:
1. Rack rate — charged to people who “screw” the house. VERY high (read the rate card in your room to see the terrible rack rate).
2. Reservations rate — charged to people who call in to reserve, without a player’s card, which costs the casino more in customer service.
3. Online rate — charged to people who reserve online without a Total Rewards number.
4. Total Rewards rate — charged to people who reserve online who have not played much.
5. Casino rate — charged to people who play enough to warrant a discount
6. Comped rate (R-only) — free rooms only
7. Comped rate (RFB) — free room, food and beverage
There are numerous tiers of comped rates, such as lRFB (room, limited food and beverage) and RFBL (room, food, beverage, limosine).
